Lemon Rice / Nimmakaya Pulihora


When unexpected guests come for lunch or dinner, then you can make this one along with rice as one dish. It is very easy to prepare. The only thing is you should have lemon or lemon juice.

I learnt “Nimmakai pulihora” from my Mom.

Serving for:

As a full meal … It serves for 2 people.
As a part in the meal … It serves for 4 people.

Time:

To cook rice (I cook in Rice-Cooker) : 25 minutes.
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Waiting time: 5-10 minutes

Ingredients:

Raw-Rice --- 1 cup (250 ml)
Water --- 2 cups (500 ml)
Lemon --- 2 Big one


Green chilies --- 10-15 small size


Turmeric powder --- ¼ tsp
Salt

For Seasoning:

Oil --- 3 tsp
Peanuts --- 2 Tbs
Channa dal (Pachi Senaga Pappu) --- 1 Tbs
Urad Dal --- 1 Tbs
Mustard seeds --- 1tbs
Dry Red Chilies --- 1 chopped
Curry Leaves

Process:

Clean raw-rice for 2 times with water.
Add 2 cups of water to it.
Cook rice in rice-cooker or as you make rice generally.
In the meanwhile, Slit green chilies horizontally into two pieces. Keep it aside.


When the rice is done … add turmeric powder to it and mix it gently.
Heat 1 ½ tsp of oil in pan.
Stir fry green chilies, peanuts, channa dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, dry red chilly and curry leaves.
Add this stuff and enough salt to the rice and combine it gently.
Slit the lemon into two pieces.
Squeeze the lemon to the rice.
Taste it and adjust lemon and salt.


Now it is ready to serve.
