Tomato Bath

Learnt From: My Mom.

Ingredients:

Sooji / Bombai Ravva --- ½ cup
Water --- 1 ½ cups
Green Chilies --- 4
Ginger --- 3 inch piece

Onions --- ¼ of the big one
Tomatoes --- 3 small or 2 medium
Salt --- as per taste

Note:

My mom adds potato too. But I don’t like tht in my tomato bath. And some add green peas too. If you want … you can add.

For Seasoning:

Oil --- 5 tblsn
Channa dal --- 1 tblsn
Urad Dal --- 1 tblsn
Mustard Seeds --- 1 tsp
Curry Leaves --- a few

Process:

Chop 4 green chilies, 3 inch piece ginger, ¼ th of the big onion, & 3 tomatoes into pieces. Keep them aside.

Heat 5 tblsn of oil in a deep pan. Don’t use a wide pan like I used.
Add & Toast seasoning one by one like channa dal, urad dal, and mustard seeds.
When the mustard seeds splutter add chopped green chilies, ginger and curry leaves.
Stir fry till the curry leaves get white spots.
Add chopped onions. Stir fry till translucent.

Add chopped tomatoes. Stir fry till them become limp.

Add 1 ½ cup of water (3 times to sooji qty).
Add enough salt. To check the salt. Take a drop of water and check the saltiness.
Keep the water till bubbles form.

In the meanwhile, take ½ cup of sooji.
Slowly add sooji with one hand and stir it with another hand. Add sooji little by little. This is very important step. Or else lumps will form.
Keep stirring till the water evaporates.

Turn the heat to sim and cover the pan with lid for 2 minutes.

Turn off the heat and mix well.
Tomato Bath is ready to be served.
