Bottle Gourd / Sorrakaya Tomato Curry

I learnt this from my Mom.

Ingredients:

Bottle Gourd --- 1 medium size
Tomatoes --- 3 no.s

For Seasoning:

Urud Dal
Mustard Seeds
Cumin Seeds
Red Chilies --- 3 no.’s
Curry Leaves

Process:

Chop Bottle gourd.

Heat oil in a deep pan.
Add seasoning one by one like urud dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilies, curry leaves.
Add chopped bottle gourd pieces.


Add pinch of turmeric powder and salt as per taste.
Cover it with lid and keep the heat in medium flame.
Don’t pour water into it. The water comes from the vapour to cook. Moreover, bottle gourd is a watery vegetable.
Stir it occasionally.
In the mean while, chop tomatoes into cubes.
When it is done half add tomato to it.


Cook till the Bottle Gourd becomes tender.
Take over the lid and keep it till the water vapours off completely.
Good with Rice.
