Dal Fry

Recipe Source: From my sister-in-law (Lakshmi)

Serves: for 10-12 pulkas

Ingredients:

Masoor dal / Toor dal --- 1 Rice Cooker Cup

Turmeric powder --- a pinch
Salt --- to taste
Coriander leaves --- 10 springs

For Seasoning:

• Ghee --- 1 tblsn
• Garlic --- 4 cloves
• Cumin seeds --- 1 ½ tsp (more than normal seasoning)
• Green chilies --- 8 very small / 4 medium

Process:

Clean the dal twice with water. Pressure cook it for 3 whistles by adding a pinch of turmeric powder and 2 times of water to the dal. Wait till the pressure goes off.

In the meanwhile, chop the garlic cloves very finely and slit the green chilies and keep aside. Heat a tblsn of ghee in a pan. Add chopped garlic and fry till golden brown like the below picture. Add cumin seeds and fry for a while.

Add slit green chilies and fry till they are translucent.

Now add the pressure cooked dal to the pan. Add a cup of water to the pan and enough salt to the dal. Fry for 8-10 minutes on medium heat.

Just before turning off the heat, add chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.

Transfer the dal to a serving bowl.

Chop onions into thin slices. Sprinkle pepper power, salt and with lemon juice on the top of the onion slices.

Have the dal fry with pulka / chapathi along with the onions.
