Dates & Tamarind Chutney (Sweet)

We make this tamarind sweet chutney to make ‘sev-puri’, ‘pani-puri’, ‘bhel-puri’ and for some chaats. All this recipes will be come soon in my blog.

Learnt From: My friend Charu.

Ingredients:

Tamarind Paste --- 2 tsp (I used Laxmi brand)
(If not paste take small lime size of tamarind)

Dates (Seedless) --- 10
Oil --- 1 Tblsn
Cumin / Jeera Powder --- 1 tsp
Red Chilly Powder --- 1 tsp
Jaggery --- (optional)

Process:

Make 1cup of tamarind juice with 2 tsp of tamarind paste or with a small lime size of lemon.

Soak 10 seedless dates in a little water for 5-10 minutes.

Blend the soaked dates with little strained water to a fine paste.

Then add tamarind juice to it.

Add the strained water too to liquefy it. Keep tht aside.

Heat a tsp of oil in a pan.

Fry cumin powder.

Add the blending dates & tamarind juice to the pan.

Add a tsp of red chilly powder and a big pinch of salt.

Keep boiling till the gravy becomes thick.

Note:

If you are making for 'pani pani' add little more water to it and boil. If you are making for sev puri, chapathi chaat, don't add any more water.

Sweet Tamarind Chutney is ready.

Note:

If you don't have dates you can make it with grated jaggery.

Refrigerate it after using.
